| This is a representative collection of photographs taken on Saturday, 4th February 2006 around and about the famous Stockport to Stalybridge 'Ghost Train'.
It gets this nickname because it runs just once per week, in one direction only, currently as the 11.23 Saturdays Only departure from Stockport. It is the only scheduled passenger train between Stockport and Guide Bridge and the only train to call at the two intermediate stations en route: Reddish South and Denton. The reason for it being a scheduled train is to comply with UK transport regulations and maintain the route's passenger status. This enables other passenger trains which have been diverted away from their regular routes because of engineering work or other blockages to use the Stockport to Guide Bridge line whenever required. The Ghost Train carries on to Stalybridge, over a section with a very frequent passenger service, as a matter of operational convenience. This train's almost unique status has caused it to become a regular attraction to rail enthusiasts all over the UK, some of whom travel fair distances from home just to ride upon it. A bonus attraction on arrival at Stalybridge is the Station Buffet which offers a wide selection of beers as well as hot food and tea, coffee etc. and also displays a fine collection of historic railwayana.
